ABOUT

ABOUT ME / HOW I WORK

My approach is intuitive and holistic. I am warm, empathic and present with you. I offer non-judgemental, compassionate listening and I actively engage in the relationship between us, providing insightful feedback. I create a calm, nurturing, and confidential environment, to help you feel comfortable and safe to be yourself.

As an integrative counsellor working from a Person-Centred background, I believe that you should feel in control of your therapeutic journey, so you choose what to bring to our sessions and at what pace. I draw on a variety of Humanistic theoretical models and techniques in order to meet your individual needs in a unique and personal way, including

 Gestalt, Body-Focusing and Motivational Interviewing.

My personal involvement in Arts, nature and mindfulness means I bring a creative and dynamic element to therapy. If this is something that interests you, we can focus on therapeutic techniques rooted in art, nature and mindfulness. In my experience, exploring yourself and your relationships in a more creative and metaphorical way can bring your mind a surprising amount of clarity and relief.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

I am an experienced and qualified therapist having worked alongside adults and young people with a wide rage of emotional issues. I trained in Person-Centred counselling at the University of Brighton and worked as a support/crisis worker prior to and alongside my training. Since qualifying I have supported clients within a charity setting and in my private practice. I specialise in trauma therapy having supported survivors of sexual violence through a Bristol based charity for several years. I have extensive experience supporting people to overcome past traumatic events and find their way towards the functional, peaceful and meaningful life they want.

I also have many years of personal experience in therapy so I understand the hopes and fears that you can feel as a client when meeting and connecting with your new therapist. I am sensitive to offering you a calm, confidential environment in which you can feel comfortable and safe to be yourself.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherpy (BACP) and as part of its ethical frame work, I am committed to attending regular additional training courses to enhance my practice as your therapist.

WHAT IS COUNSELLING / HOW CAN IT HELP?

Most of us at some point in our lives go through periods of feeling stuck or overwhelmed with obstacles that prevent us from leading a fulfilling life. Perhaps a persistent voice of self-doubt and worry may hold us back or we may be struggling to form and maintain healthy relationships. Sometimes we reach a pinnacle point where we feel a strong desire to understand ourselves on a deeper level or come to terms with past events so we can enjoy the present. Whatever your reasons for seeking therapy, by exploring feelings and thoughts with a counsellor, you can discover solutions to problems, feel more confident making choices and create positive change in your life.

Person-centred counselling is about offering you a stable therapeutic relationship of openness, non-judgement and compassion. It's a safe and nurturing space in which your personal growth and change can happen. By offering you a place to be heard, understood and accepted while exploring your thoughts, emotions and behaviours; counselling can help empower you, find clarity, realise your visions and achieve your goals.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During our initial sessions, we will explore the obstacles in your life as well as what you most long for. We will identify and develop your inner resources and confidence in preparation for safe deeper emotional work. While working together we may touch into sadness, anxiety or anger. We may also find ourselves laughing, feeling joy and relief . All emotions are welcome and part of the healing process.
